The reason behind Everton fans protesting at the Man City vs Liverpool, Man United game: Understanding the frustration with the Premier League.

Posted on November 25, 2023February 17, 2026 By Corey Powell

Everton supporters are facing a tough time as the club has been docked 10 points by the Premier League for breaching their profit and sustainability rules. This deduction has sent the Toffees to second bottom in the table, and the club has declared its intention to appeal the decision.

Anger towards the league will be expressed by Everton fans who plan to stage protests when top-flight football in England resumes following the latest international break. These planned protests are in response to the sanction imposed on the club.

Interim Everton chief executive Colin Chong released a statement expressing unity with the club’s fans and the intention to appeal the outcome. The 1878s fan group is encouraging fans to display banners, flags, and placards during Everton’s home game against Manchester United.

In addition to the protests at their own game, Everton fans also plan to express their discontent during the Saturday clash between Manchester City and Liverpool. The fan group intends to have a plane fly over Manchester City’s ground with a protest banner to make their message clear.

This latest development comes after the Premier League referred Everton to an independent commission for breaking financial regulations. The club has been accused of overspending, leading to the points deduction and subsequent protests from supporters.

The situation is further complicated by the fact that Everton’s current owner is in the process of selling the club to an American investment firm, and the consortium could reconsider the deal due to the complications caused by the charges.
