TRAI Fine-Tunes DND App to Combat Unwanted Calls and Texts
In recent news, TRAI is working diligently to enhance its ‘Do Not Disturb’ (DND) app, an essential tool for mobile users to combat pesky calls and texts. Speaking at a Truecaller event, TRAI Secretary V Raghunandan revealed the agency’s proactive approach to resolving technical glitches and bug fixes within the DND app.
Raghunandan discussed the technical challenges at the event and emphasized TRAI’s efforts to address these issues. To tackle identified bugs in the DND app, TRAI has enlisted the expertise of an external agency. Notably, specific concerns about the app’s compatibility with certain Android smartphones have been largely resolved, with the agency aiming for universal compatibility by March 2024.
However, the DND app currently faces limitations on iPhones due to Apple’s restrictions on call log access, adding a layer of complexity to the app’s compatibility, especially on Apple devices.
Despite these hurdles, TRAI is actively working on making the DND app compatible with iOS devices, although no specific timeline has been provided. Raghunandan also highlighted a significant decrease in unwanted calls and texts in India, attributing this positive trend to improvements in the DND app.
Truecaller CEO Alan Mamedi shared that the app boasts over 270 million active users in India, with approximately 5 million spam calls reported daily. With hopes for enhanced compatibility for the TRAI DND app, there is an optimistic outlook for further reducing spam calls in the future.
