According to the latest statement from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), middle-order batsman Harry Brook will not participate in the Test series against India in India and will return to England with immediate effect.

In an official statement issues by the ECB, they mentioned that Brook will miss the Test series against India due to personal reasons.
“Harry Brook is set to return home with immediate effect for personal reasons from the England Men’s Test tour of India. The Brook family respectfully requests privacy during this time. In light of this, the ECB and the family kindly request the media and the public to respect their wish for privacy and refrain from intruding on their private space,” the ECB said in their statement.
It will be a big blow to the Englishmen as they hope to win their first Test series in India since 2012. In fact, since they beat India 2-1 12 years ago, no team has managed to defeat India in a Test series in India.
Brook was set to make his maiden Test appearance in India, but will now have to skip the series under extenuating circumstances.

Daniel Lawrence named as Harry Brook’s replacement
Essex-born Daniel Lawrence has been named as the replacement for Brook.
Lawrence has the experience of playing 11 Tests, with his last Test coming in March 2022. He made his debut in January 2021 against Sri Lanka.
While it remains to be seen if Lawrence will be an automatic selection in the XI, the other viable option that England could go ahead with is playing Jonny Bairstow at No.5, with Ben Foakes or Ollie Pope keeping the wickets.
