Chopra was born in Detroit, Michigan on November 4, 1998. He is the son of film-maker Vidhu Vinod Chopra and film critic Anupama Chopra. At the age of 25, his first-class debut has come relatively late, but there are extenuating circumstances.

He began his career in Mumbai, and showed enough promise to be named as the captain of the Mumbai U19 state team in 2017.
