China has made a significant breakthrough in internet capabilities by launching the world’s fastest internet, achieving a remarkable data transmission speed of 1.2 terabits per second. This means that the technology can transfer the equivalent of 150 HD movies in just one second. This surpasses current industry standards and defies earlier predictions that such ultra-fast internet connectivity wouldn’t materialize until 2025.
The new internet service is the result of a collaboration between Tsinghua University, China Mobile, Huawei Technologies, and Cernet Corporation. China’s commitment to cutting-edge connectivity is highlighted through this achievement, which is part of the China Education and Research Network (CERNET).
This groundbreaking internet service is powered by an expansive optical fiber network spanning over 3,000 kilometers, connecting strategic points from Beijing to Wuhan and down to Guangzhou. It has the capability to transfer 1.2 terabits of data per second between these key locations.
Compared to current infrastructure, the newly introduced fiber broadband service achieves peak speeds, exceeding recent launches that handle data at 400 gigabits per second. Presently, the “internet backbone networks” deployed globally operate at 100 gigabits per second. This accelerated progress defies earlier projections, positioning the technology at the forefront of high-speed connectivity.
