During the early days of MySpace, in 2005, the National Retail Federation coined the term “Cyber Monday”, as they noted that the internet saw a spike in sales on the Monday following Thanksgiving. Retailers, wanting to tap into the holiday shopping frenzy, named the day after Thanksgiving Black Friday and the Monday after Cyber Monday. Today, with the shift to online shopping, there is little difference between the two.
Black Friday is no longer limited to just one day, as major retailers began dropping deals as early as October, continuing until the Friday after Thanksgiving. Meanwhile, Cyber Monday officially starts on November 27, but unofficially “Cyber Monday” deals appear as early as November 25. Cyber Monday sales will more than likely continue throughout the week.
