Manchester United Manager Erik ten Hag to Miss Everton Game Due to Touchline Ban.
Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, will not be on the touchline when his team faces Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday. This is due to the fact that he received his third yellow card of the season during their 1-0 win over Luton Town. The card was a result of his frustration at a throw-in being awarded to Luton Town instead of United. As a result, he will not be allowed on the touchline during the upcoming match against Everton.
This suspension is a result of the introduction of yellow cards for managers and coaching staff in 2018. Previously, managers could be “sent to the stands” but were not officially shown yellow or red cards. Since the introduction of the new rule, managers and coaches are subject to similar disciplinary rules as players, with a suspension occurring after accumulating three yellow cards at any point in the season.
In the past, managers and coaches who had been sent off were able to sit in the stands and watch the remainder of the game. However, this rule was changed ahead of the 2023/24 season, directing that any manager sent off for actions during a match must not sit in the stands, and instead must be withdrawn from the crowd in some manner after being sent down the tunnel.
Despite his absence, ten Hag expressed confidence in his coaching staff’s ability to lead the team from the touchline. This will be a key match for Manchester United as they seek to overcome the absence of their manager and secure a victory against Everton.
