Varjo Unveils XR-4 Series: A New Era of Mixed Reality Technology
Finland’s leading industrial VR/XR hardware manufacturer, Varjo, has launched its latest XR-4 series of mixed-reality headsets, catering to enterprise and military applications. The company promises that users will experience a level of immersive technology that is practically indistinguishable from natural sight.
Varjo boasts its extensive use in a wide range of Fortune 100 companies, where it has contributed to astronaut and pilot training, accelerated automotive production, facilitated medical advancements, and created 3D visualizations for architects and designers.
The XR-4 series, which includes the XR-4, XR-4 Focal Edition, and XR-4 Secure Edition, is designed to deliver unparalleled visual fidelity and performance in VR/XR experiences for industrial users. These state-of-the-art headsets integrate high-resolution displays, foveated capture streams, advanced LiDAR depth sensing, and camera sensors, simulating the functions of the human eye to provide virtual and mixed reality experiences that closely resemble natural vision.
Powered by NVIDIA GPUs and NVIDIA Omniverse, the XR-4 series enables developers and industrial users to create lifelike scenes and activate ray tracing in mixed reality. Varjo emphasizes that this combination of technologies surpasses the computational capabilities of mobile chips.
Supporting the XR-4 series is a Varjo-ready software ecosystem that includes more than 100 third-party PC applications and 3D engines, such as Unreal Engine and Unity, catering to various industries, including training and simulation, design and engineering, and healthcare.
Patrick Wyatt, Chief Product Officer of Varjo, expressed the company’s commitment to bridging the gap between human vision and computer vision with the XR-4 series, as the industry enters a period of rapid expansion in mixed reality adoption.
In addition to these technological advancements, Varjo introduces the gaze-directed autofocus mixed reality pass-through feature, a first in the VR/XR industry. The XR-4 series features dual 4K x 4K displays, a wider field of view, increased display brightness, dual 20 Mpx cameras for high-fidelity real-time video pass-through mixed reality, ambient light sensors, and improved LiDAR resolution.
The XR-4 and XR-4 Focal Edition iterations of the headsets can operate offline, adhere to TAA compliance standards, and include non-RF features. Varjo’s new manufacturing facility in Espoo, Finland, will facilitate the production of the XR-4 Secure Edition, set to begin operations in December.
Varjo’s latest XR-4 series marks a significant leap forward in the development of mixed reality technology, blending human and computer vision, and setting new standards for immersive VR/XR experiences, strengthening the company’s position as an industry leader in the field. ⓒ 2023 TECHTIMES.com All rights reserved.
