Rocket Lab USA, Inc. has just announced a new launch services agreement with the US Department of Defense’s Defense Innovation Unit for the groundbreaking Hypersonic Accelerator Suborbital Test Electron (HASTE) mission. This mission will feature the deployment of the Hypersonix DART AE, a scramjet-powered hypersonic vehicle capable of reaching speeds of up to Mach 7. The launch is scheduled to take place at Rocket Lab Launch Complex 2 in Virginia, with the payload developed by the Australian company Hypersonix.
This mission, named HyCat, aims to demonstrate the ‘direct inject’ capability of HASTE by deploying the Hypersonix payload during ascent within Earth’s atmosphere. This launch will mark the seventh mission to be added this year to Rocket Lab’s suborbital launch manifest.
