On Saturday, Tamil Nadu and Mumbai faced off in the semi-final of the 2023/24 Ranji Trophy at the Bandra-Kurla Complex ground in Mumbai.

TN captain Sai Kishore won the toss and chose to bat first, but the decision seemed to backfire as his side slipped to 17/4 before being bowled out for a paltry 146. Mumbai then ended day one at 45/2, with Musheer Khan and nightwatchman Mohit Avasthi at the crease.
On Sunday, Sai Kishore led a Tamil Nadu fightback with the ball, leading from the front with some important wickets.
Who is Sai Kishore? The Tamil Nadu star who spun a web around Mumbai in Ranji Trophy
Sai Kishore trapped opener Bhupen Lalwani late on day one, before beginning proceedings on day two. He bowled unchanged from one end until lunch, keeping Tamil Nadu in the game. He removed Mohit Avasthi, before accounting for Ajinkya Rahane, Musheer Khan, Shams Mulani and later, Hardik Tamore.
The left-arm spinner, who stands at 6’3″, was not always an aspiring cricketer. As he revealed to News18 in 2019, Sai Kishore was actually a topper in his school days, and had ambitions of becoming an engineer or scientist.
However, a few months after enrolling in an engineering college, he dropped out to put his cricketing talent to good use. After playing for Tamil Nadu’s state youth teams, he made his first-class debut for the senior side in 2017-18.
He was a net bowler for IPL side Chennai Super Kings, and trialled with several other franchises. He was picked up by CSK in the 2020 player auction, but never played a match for the five-time champions. Sai Kishore moved to Gujarat Titans last year, and played five matches for the franchise in IPL 2023.
In October last year, Sai Kishore made his T20I debut, representing India at the Asian Games. He will be hoping to play a bigger role in the IPL this time around, after leading the wicket-takers list in the ongoing Ranji Trophy.
