On Thursday, India took on England in the third Test of the sides’ five-match bilateral series at the SCA Stadium in Rajkot. This is a crucial match in the series, which is level at 1-1.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bat first on a good wicket. However, the hosts were rocked early as they slipped to 33/3 with Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill and Rajat Patidar back in the hut. Rohit (131) and Ravindra Jadeja (110*) then put on 204 for the fourth wicket to haul the hosts out of trouble.
Debutant Sarfaraz Khan also made an impact, scoring a rapid 66-ball 62 before he was run out thanks to a direct throw from Mark Wood. Sarfaraz had responded to Jadeja’s call for a quick single when the all-rounder was batting on 99, but Jadeja changed his mind and he was left stranded.
Ravindra Jadeja’s running under the scanner: Worst run-outs involving the India all-rounder
While many put the mix-up down to a case of nerves thanks to Jadeja nearing the milestone of 100 runs, others were quick to point out the southpaw’s poor record of judging a run. In this series alone, he was involved in running out R Ashwin in the first Test, himself in the second and Sarfaraz in the third.
Ravindra Jadeja has been involved in 11 run outs in Test cricket for IND. He’s been run out only once. Sarfaraz Khan is the 10th. Others:
Ashwin (twice)
Dhoni (twice)
Bumrah (three times)
Kohli (once).
Rahane (once)All the omens are excellent for Sarfaraz Khan…

The most recent one drew the ire of many viewers, as Jadeja had spent nearly half an hour in the 90s, contributing just 15 to his and Sarfaraz’s partnership of 77. In addition, the way Sarfaraz was batting, a century in double-quick time was not out of the question.
Perhaps Jadeja’s most infamous run-out came in 2017, during the Champions Trophy final against Pakistan at The Oval. Chasing 339, India were reduced to 72/6 when he joined Hardik Pandya at the crease.
The pair put on 80 in 57 balls, largely thanks to the latter’s 76 off 43 balls before Jadeja pushed a ball into covers. But his ball-watching meant he had not noticed Pandya charging down the wicket and failed to respond to his partner’s call, extinguishing India’s last remaining hope.
In addition, Jadeja has been involved in India’s last three run-outs of batters on 50+ scores. In the 2020 Boxing Day Test in Melbourne, his poor judgment of a quick single ran Ajinkya Rahane out for 112, despite the latter responding immediately to his call.
