On January 25, India and England kicked off their five-match Test series in the subcontinent, as the visitors attempted to become the first team in nearly 12 years to defeat India in India in a Test match series.

They got off to the perfect start, securing a 28-run win in Hyderabad in the first Test before India hit back with a 106-run victory in Visakhapatnam. England’s spin attack was a major talking point ahead of the series, with Rehan Ahmed, Tom Hartley and Shoaib Bashir having played just one Test between them prior to landing in India.

As a result, Jack Leach was expected to bear much of the spin bowling load, but he missed the second Test after injuring his knee in Hyderabad.

Initially, it was expected that Leach would be able to return in the third Test, thanks to the 10-day gap between the second and third matches. However, the latest tests have returned worrying results for the visitors.

On Sunday, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) released a statement confirming that Leach had been ruled out of the remainder of the series and thus would not take place in the matches in Rajkot, Ranchi and Dharamsala.

We’re all with you, Leachy ❤️

The release also said that Leach would fly home from the team’s base in Abu Dhabi within the next 24 hours, and that they would not be calling up a replacement for the left-arm spinner.
