India completed an emphatic series win against England in the fourth Test in Ranchi, winning the match by five wickets.

It has been a sensational performance from Rahul Dravid’s troops, especially after being dealt a fatal wound in the series opener in Hyderabad as they fell to a 28-run defeat.

Now, the focus shifts to the fifth and final Test, which begins on Thursday, March 7, at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala.

India will aim to strengthen their hold at the top of the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 points table. The 2023 WTC runners-up currently have a 64.58% tally from eight Tests, which could jump to 68.52% with a win in Dharamsala.

India probable XI for fifth Test vs England – Jasprit Bumrah set to return

India will welcome the return of pace-bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah for the fifth Test. The 30-year-old was rested for the fourth Test in Ranchi after leading the attack in the first three Tests.

Bumrah bowled the most overs among the Indian bowlers and picked up 17 wickets. He will be fancying inflicting some more damage and giving nightmares to the English batsmen.

He will join Mohammed Siraj in the attack, which means the impressive Akash Deep, who made his debut in Ranchi, will be relegated to the bench.

India are expected to field a three-pronged spin attack consisting of Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and the unrelenting Kuldeep Yadav.

As for the batting department, skipper Rohit Sharma will open the innings with Yashasvi Jaiswal, who could break a host of records. Shubman Gill will resume his duties at No. 3 and Dhruv Jurel will continue to play at No. 7 as the wicketkeeper.

Sarfaraz Khan impressed one and all with scintillating twin fifties on his debut in the third Test, but couldn’t continue the trend in the previous Test. Regardless, he has done enough to warrant himself another Test.

The only player whose position in the lineup seems dicey at the moment is Rajat Patidar, who played the last three Tests at No. 4. Patidar has scored just 63 runs across six innings, which might prompt the management to hand a Test cap to Devdutt Padikkal, given that India can afford to experiment with the series already in the bag. However, Patidar seems to have the backing of the team management, and might be given another chance to prove his ability in the final Test.

India probable XI for the fifth Test: Rohit Sharma (C), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Rajat Patidar / Devdutt Padikkal, Ravindra Jadeja, Sarfaraz Khan, Dhruv Jurel (WK), Ravichandran Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj
