Recalled players including Steve Smith and Glenn Maxwell return to Australian T20 squad for Ind vs Aus T20I

Posted on November 28, 2023February 17, 2026 By Corey Powell

Australia, fresh off their World Cup victory, were gearing up for a five-match T20I series against India just days after their triumph. The hosts had rested most of their World Cup squad for the bilateral series, while Australia had named seven players along with reserve Tanveer Sangha in the T20 squad. However, India managed to win the first two matches of the series, setting the stage for an exciting showdown.

To add to the tension, ahead of the third T20I, Australia decided to recall six World Cup winners from the T20 squad, opting for major changes. Steve Smith, Adam Zampa, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Josh Inglis, and Sean Abbott were all withdrawn from the squad, with replacements already named by Cricket Australia. Batters Josh Phillippe and Ben McDermott had already joined the squad in India, while bowlers Ben Dwarshius and Chris Green were set to fly in ahead of the fourth T20I.

As a result, the squad for the remaining T20Is against India was solidified, with Matthew Wade as captain, along with other key players like Tim David, Nathan Ellis, Travis Head, and Kane Richardson. The stage was set for an intense battle between the two cricketing giants.

For fans looking to capitalize on the excitement, betting options for the third T20I between India and Australia were available, offering the latest odds and special offers for selected territories. This series was proving to be a thrilling chapter in the ongoing rivalry between these two powerhouse cricketing nations.
