Jim Ratcliffe’s plans for Manchester United: Potential sacking of Erik ten Hag, January transfers, and possible departures.

Posted on November 9, 2023 By Haley Bennett

Manchester United has been facing a year-long takeover saga ever since the Glazer family, their owners, stated they were exploring outside investment options. While Qatar’s Sheikh Jassim withdrew his offer of acquiring 100% of the club, British businessman Sir Jim Ratcliffe is now likely to buy a 25% stake in the club for $1.57 billion. His proposal includes gaining control of the footballing side of the business. However, the club’s board is yet to accept Ratcliffe’s bid. This uncertainty has taken its toll on the team’s on-field performances, as seen in their recent defeat to Manchester City.

Erik ten Hag, the team’s current manager, is under increasing pressure as the club is struggling with defeats and inconsistency in performance. Observers are questioning if a change in management is necessary. Despite these challenges, there is still no confirmation that Ratcliffe will make any immediate changes if he takes over the football side of things. Furthermore, financial constraints may hinder any significant signings for United in the coming transfer window.

The team will need to sell players to fund new additions, but finding good value for outgoing players has proven difficult for the struggling club. Key players such as Jadon Sancho and Harry Maguire may refuse moves in January, adding to the club’s transfer woes. In light of this uncertainty, it remains to be seen what the future holds for Manchester United.
