Bangladesh Achieves Historic 150-Run Victory Over New Zealand in 1st Cricket Test: Score, Result, Highlights

Posted on December 2, 2023February 17, 2026 By Corey Powell

Bangladesh achieved a monumental victory over New Zealand in the Test series opener in Sylhet, triumphing by a margin of 150 runs. This historic win marks Bangladesh’s second Test victory over the Kiwis and their first-ever win on home soil. The match proved to be a closely contested battle between the two sides.

In the first innings, Bangladesh posted a total of 310 runs, with Mahmudul Hasan Joy contributing 86 runs. New Zealand, led by Kane Williamson’s century, responded with a score of 317, marking his 29th Test ton in his 95th Test match.

The second innings saw Bangladesh compile 338 runs, with Najmul Hossain Shanto scoring a century, and Mushfiqur Rahim and Mehidy Hasan each contributing fifties. Shanto, in his inaugural Test as captain, registered a historic century, becoming the first Bangladeshi player to achieve this feat on his captaincy debut. He also became the fastest player to score five Test centuries for Bangladesh, achieving the milestone in 24 Tests.

In pursuit of 332 runs, New Zealand could only muster 181, with left-arm spinner Taijul Islam claiming six wickets. Daryl Mitchell was the top scorer for New Zealand in the innings, scoring a gritty 58 runs from 120 balls.

The second test between Bangladesh and New Zealand is scheduled to take place at Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Dhaka on December 6. It promises to be an exciting contest following Bangladesh’s historic victory in the series opener. For the latest odds, betting information, and cricket scores and fixtures from India, click here.
