Latest updates on Casemiro’s return following his hamstring injury, which occurred during the match against Man United.

Posted on November 3, 2023 By Haley Bennett

Manchester United’s 2023/24 season has started on a disappointing note. Under Erik ten Hag’s management, the team has suffered eight defeats out of 15 matches in all competitions. This slump has been compounded by a series of injuries to key players.

Following back-to-back 3-0 losses to Manchester City and Newcastle United, the patience of Man United fans is wearing thin. The latest blow comes in the form of Casemiro’s health concerns.

Casemiro joins a growing list of first-team players who have been sidelined due to injuries, particularly among the club’s senior defenders. The Brazilian midfielder recently returned from an ankle problem and played in the Carabao Cup match against Newcastle. However, he was substituted at halftime due to a fresh hamstring injury.

The Sporting News provides updates on Casemiro’s injury and speculates about his possible return for crucial upcoming games.

Casemiro was absent from the recent derby match but returned to the squad for the home fixture against Newcastle, where he was named captain in Bruno Fernandes’ absence. Unfortunately, his appearance was short-lived as he played only 45 minutes. During that time, he received a yellow card and witnessed Newcastle scoring twice. It was initially unclear whether the substitution was due to an injury or tactical reasons.

Ten Hag clarified the situation in the post-match press conference, stating, “Just before halftime, he got an injury. That’s why we had to take him off.” When asked about the duration of Casemiro’s absence, the manager responded, “I can’t give an answer on that [now]. We have to wait 24 hours, but I think definitely for Saturday, he is out.”

A recent update from Manchester United confirms the seriousness of Casemiro’s injury. The club tweeted, “ℹ️ @Casemiro has been ruled out for several weeks. #MUFC.” The official statement from the club explains, “Casemiro will be out for several weeks due to a hamstring injury suffered during our Carabao Cup defeat to Newcastle United on Wednesday. The Brazilian midfielder was withdrawn at halftime due to the issue, and subsequent assessment has revealed a strain that will keep him out for a number of weeks.”

This timeline suggests that Casemiro may miss the rest of November, making him unavailable for upcoming matches against Fulham, Copenhagen, Luton, Everton, and Galatasaray. Additionally, it is unlikely that he will be able to participate in Brazil’s World Cup qualifiers against Colombia and Argentina this month.
