It Comes with a Higher Price
Anthropic’s announcement follows a series of rival releases in the AI space and the introduction of Claude 2 in July. The competitive landscape highlights the ongoing effort of companies to dominate charts ranking AI performance, even as businesses grapple with incorporating such technology effectively.
Daniela Amodei, President of Anthropic, noted that customers willing to pay a higher price would opt for Claude 3 Opus, especially if they required advanced cognitive capabilities for tasks like complex financial analysis.
Anthropic disclosed that it would charge $15 for Claude 3 Opus per million data pieces, known as tokens, making it at least five times less expensive than its smaller models handling the same amount. In comparison, OpenAI charges $10 per million tokens for its GPT-4 Turbo model.

How Powerful is Claude 3?
Claude 3 represents Anthropic’s first “multimodal” AI suite, allowing it to respond to both text queries and images, similar to some other rival models. The creation of fresh content on demand is possible thanks to this generative AI capability, which OpenAI’s ChatGPT has popularized.
In a report from CNBC, Anthropic highlighted Claude 3’s ability to summarize up to approximately 150,000 words, equivalent to a substantial book like “Moby Dick” or “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.” The previous version could only summarize 75,000 words. Users can input large datasets and request summaries in memo, letter, or story formats, distinguishing it from ChatGPT, which can handle around 3,000 words.

CEO Amodei also emphasized Claude 3’s improved understanding of risk in responses compared to its predecessor. The model exhibits a more nuanced understanding of prompts, addressing previous issues of over-refusal seen in Claude 2.
Claude 3 will not produce images but will examine them, reflecting lower enterprise demand for this feature. Anthropic confirmed that the Claude 3 models would be available through Amazon and Google’s cloud platforms, as well as sold directly in 159 countries.
In a related development, Google has introduced the ‘Photomath’ app as its newest tool. Google’s 2022 acquisition of the Photomath application led it to become AI-powered, joining Google’s arsenal of AI-driven productivity tools.
