Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) emerged victorious in the state of Mizoram, dethroning the Mizo National Front (MNF) and securing 27 seats in the 40-member House. Notable ZPM winners include Lalduhoma, who defeated MNF rival J Malsawmzuala Vanchhawng in the Serchhip seat.
The ruling MNF won nine seats and was leading in one, while the BJP claimed victory in the Palak and Saiha seats, and the Indian National Congress secured the Lawngtlai West seat.
Prominent MNF figures such as Deputy Chief Minister Tawnluia, Health Minister R Lalthangliana, and Rural Development Minister Laruatkima all lost to ZPM candidates in various constituencies. Chief Minister and MNF chief Zoramthanga also suffered defeat to ZPM’s Lalthansanga.
ZPM emerged victorious in numerous constituencies across the state, while MNF won in several others.
The counting of votes began at 8 am, involving over 4,000 personnel and 399 tables for EVMs. Of the state’s 8.57 lakh voters, over 80% exercised their franchise on November 7.
The MNF, ZPM, and Congress contested 40 seats each, with the BJP fielding candidates in 23 seats and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) fighting in four seats. Additionally, 17 independent candidates were also in the fray.
