Title: Sam Bankman-Fried Gives Testimony in Fraud Trial as Crypto Prices Surge
In the world of cryptocurrency, last week witnessed the ongoing criminal fraud trial of Sam Bankman-Fried, the founder of the now-defunct cryptocurrency exchange FTX.
Bankman-Fried took the stand twice, capturing the attention of the court. Initially, the US District Judge ordered the jurors not to be present during his testimony as he determined the admissibility of the evidence presented. The questioning, led by Assistant US Attorney Danielle Sassoon, revealed concerns about Bankman-Fried’s evasiveness and refusal to answer some questions.
During the trial, Bankman-Fried admitted to only skimming the FTX Terms of Service and not thoroughly reading them. His defense strategy involving the “advice-of-counsel” was disallowed by the judge, restraining him from blaming his legal team for his actions.
Later, Bankman-Fried was given the opportunity to testify before the jury. He was questioned by his attorney, Mark Cohen, who asked if Bankman-Fried had defrauded customers or misappropriated their funds. Bankman-Fried categorically denied the allegations, expressing his and co-founder Gary Wang’s aim to build the best crypto-exchange platform but ultimately resulting in adverse consequences for FTX customers and the crypto trading community.
Bankman-Fried’s behavior significantly improved during his testimony in front of the jurors compared to the previous day when they were absent. He demonstrated cooperation, clarity, and conciseness.
Meanwhile, the world of cryptocurrencies experienced notable price fluctuations. Bitcoin surged to $34,498, marking a 12.87% increase over the past week after a prolonged period of stagnation around the $20,000 mark. Ethereum also saw a remarkable rise, reaching $1,794 and edging closer to its goal of $2,000, representing a 6.48% increase over the same period.
Other coins were influenced by the positive trend. Binance Bucks BNB showed a 3.47% increase, now trading at $227.22. XRP secured the fifth spot, with a 5.52% weekly increase.
As the trial continues and cryptocurrency prices soar, the crypto community eagerly awaits the outcome of Bankman-Fried’s case.
