Royal Enfield has finally unveiled its highly anticipated motorcycle, the Himalayan 450, at Motoverse 2023 in India. The company’s CEO, Siddharth Lal, announced that the starting price for the adventure tourer will be Rs 2.69 lakh ex-showroom Delhi, while the top variant, the Hanley Black, will be available for Rs 2.84 lakh.
In addition to its release in India, the Himalayan 450 will also be launched in Europe and the UK in March 2024, with prices set at 5,900 euros and 5,750 pounds, respectively.
Lal explained that Royal Enfield’s decision to upgrade the Himalayan was inspired by martial arts legend Bruce Lee, who symbolized the fit action hero, in contrast to the beefed-up heroes of the past. This upgrade positions the new Himalayan to compete with larger adventure tourers such as the BMW GS 1300 and Kawasaki Versys 1000.
The Himalayan 450 will come in three variants – Base, Pass, and Summit – with five color options for customers to choose from.
Featuring a modern rugged design and a redesigned fuel tank, the Himalayan 450 boasts a new LED headlight, windscreen, and redesigned LED indicators.
The bike is equipped with an all-new single-cylinder liquid-cooled 452cc engine, making it Royal Enfield’s first liquid-cooled engine. The Himalayan 450 also includes a full-color TFT display, screen mirroring, and Google Maps support.
With a power output of 40 bhp at 8,000rpm and 40 Nm of peak torque at 5,500rpm, the Himalayan 450 offers two primary riding modes – Eco and Performance – and the option to engage rear ABS in both modes.
When compared to its rival, the KTM 390 Adventure SW, the Himalayan 450 boasts a larger engine and fuel tank, as well as a higher ground clearance and seat height. This positions the Himalayan 450 as a formidable competitor in the adventure tourer market.
