Samsung Galaxy S24 Series to Introduce Satellite Communication Support, Says Samsung Executive
By Pierre Herubel
In a recent presentation, Yong-In Park, the Head of Samsung Electronics System LSI Business, hinted at an exciting innovation that will be offered by the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S24 series. The South Korean tech giant is preparing to introduce satellite communication support on its smartphones in 2024. The highly anticipated Galaxy S24 series, set for release in Q1 2024, is expected to be the first to offer this groundbreaking feature.
According to a report from Sisa Journal-E, Yong-In Park revealed this information during his presentation at the 2023 Semiconductor Expo. While he did not provide a specific timeline or mention which phones would have this feature, it is clear that Samsung is actively preparing to enable smartphone communication through satellite technology.
Samsung is not the first company to explore this technology. Apple introduced NTN (non-terrestrial networks) communication with the iPhone 14 series, and Qualcomm announced Snapdragon Satellite support integrated into the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip. However, the satellite communication feature was not activated on the Samsung Galaxy S23 series.
There is anticipation regarding the activation of satellite communication support on the Exynos 2400 chip, which is likely to be used in the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+. Additionally, there is speculation about whether the newly unveiled Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, expected to power the premium Galaxy S23 Ultra, will include this feature.
Samsung’s Exynos 5300 modem, found in the Exynos 2400 mobile processor, and Google’s Tensor G2 and Tensor G3 chips available on Pixel 7 and Pixel 8 series, are already compatible with NTN connectivity.
With the inclusion of satellite communication support, Samsung aims to provide users with enhanced connectivity and communication capabilities. By leveraging this innovative technology, the Samsung Galaxy S24 series is poised to stand out among its competitors.
Stay tuned for more updates on the Samsung Galaxy S24 series as the release date approaches.
