The 34th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) will take place in January 2024, featuring impressive stadiums in Ivory Coast as the host country. The Confederation of African Football (Caf) has emphasized the importance of top-notch facilities and infrastructure when choosing host countries, with President Patrice Motsepe recognizing the significant investment required. The tournament was originally scheduled for 2023 but was postponed to January 2024 due to weather concerns and will feature some of the world’s top footballers.
The Ivory Coast was chosen to host the 2023 AFCON after winning the bid against Guinea, Zambia, and Algeria. The finals of the tournament will take place in six stadiums spread across five cities, with three newly built stadiums. Safety measures for fans have become a priority for Caf after a tragic incident during the Cameroon tournament.
The tournament will take place from 13 January to 11 February 2024, with the final at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan. Ivory Coast previously hosted the tournament in 1984 and has won AFCON twice, in 1992 and 2015. Morocco has been named as the 2025 hosts, and a joint East African bid by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania will host the 2027 tournament. The bid for the 2030 FIFA World Cup in Morocco, Portugal, and Spain was successful.
