The latest beta build of Microsoft’s Copilot, first spotted by Mishaal Rahman and shared on X, features a new capability that will allow users to set it as the default assistant app on Android devices. This was found in the latest beta version 27.9.420225014, but this beta release does not yet have the in-depth features that are available from other AI assistants.
According to Rahman, the current version already allows users to launch Copilot from the screen, swiping diagonally from the corner of the Android device to launch it. Alternatively, long-pressing the power button would also launch the AI.
However, Copilot is not yet extensive with its features, and it could only launch the main activity for the time being. The tech analyst and reporter said that Microsoft may already be working on this feature for a more intuitive Copilot assistant experience.
Copilot is capable on its own to hold out against Google Assistant and Samsung Bixby, but using it as the default AI assistant for devices in its current beta release is not yet complete. First off, Copilot would not automatically listen for input, and API access is still minimal.
The feature where users can command the AI to grab screenshots or the likes are not yet available.
