On Tuesday, India qualified for the final of the U19 World Cup with a tense victory over hosts South Africa, chasing down 245 with 7 balls to spare, and 2 wickets in hand. They will meet Australia in Benoni on Sunday for a chance to win the title.

Bet here on India vs England and other cricket matches!

The first-ever U19 World Cup took place in 1988, 13 years after the senior tournament was set up. Australia won that tournament on home turf, with the likes of Nasser Hussain, Michael Atherton, Chris Cairns, Sanath Jayasuriya and Brian Lara all in action.

India has a storied history in the tournament, with five titles to their name (2000, 2008, 2012, 2018, 2024). This is the most in the tournament, along with their nine finals. Here, TSN brings you the history of India at the youth world event.

How many U19 World Cup titles have India won?

India have won a total of five U19 World Cup titles, the most of any team. Their total of nine finals is also the highest for any team ever.

Sarfaraz Khan has scored the most runs for India in U19 World Cup matches. He played 12 games across two tournaments in 2014 and 2016, scoring 566 runs at an average of 70.75.

Sarfaraz’s younger brother Musheer Khan is second on India’s run-scoring charts in the 2024 edition. Captain Uday Saharan leads the way with 389 runs in 6 innings, the highest not just for India but in the entire tournament.

In the ongoing tournament, left-arm spinner Saumy Pandey is India’s highest wicket-taker with 17 in 6 matches, the third-highest tally in the tournament.
