Prime Minister Narendra Modi responded to the selfie shared by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on Friday, stating that it is always a delight to meet friends. The selfie was taken during their meeting on the sidelines of the ongoing 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) in Dubai. Italian PM Meloni captioned her post on Instagram, “Good friends at COP28. #Melodi.”
During their meeting at COP 28, PM Modi and PM Meloni discussed the efforts by India and Italy for a sustainable and prosperous future. PM Modi also met with several other world leaders during the COP28 Summit, emphasizing the impact of climate change on the Global South and the essential role of climate finance and technology to fulfill their aspirations.
This wasn’t the first meeting between the two leaders, as they had previously met on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in New Delhi and during PM Meloni’s State visit to India in March 2023. During the visit, they raised bilateral relations to the level of a Strategic Partnership and discussed cooperation in areas like defense and new and emerging technologies.
The leaders also recognized the completion of 75 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries and stressed the need for G7 and G20 to work in unity for the greater global good. PM Modi’s participation in the COP28 Summit marks his third appearance at the World Climate Action Summit, with previous visits to Paris in 2015 and Glasgow in 2021. The COP28 Summit is being held from November 28 to December 12 under the Presidency of the UAE.
