Instagram Tests New Feed Exclusively for Paid Verified Users
In a move inspired by Elon Musk’s X venture, which offers users more control in exchange for a fee, Instagram, owned by Meta, is currently testing a feature that will restrict the app’s feed to posts solely from paid verified users. This experiment comes after earlier reports suggested that Meta was exploring the idea of a subscription service allowing Facebook and Instagram users to pay for a verified account.
Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, stated that this new feature is an exploration of additional controls for users and a means for businesses and creators to gain more exposure. The Verge reports that the option to toggle the Meta Verified feature will appear under “Following” and “Favorites” when users tap the Instagram logo at the top of the app.
The Meta Verified program is priced at $11.99 on the web and $14.99 within the app, offering individuals a new opportunity to enhance their visibility in the Instagram feed. Mosseri has encouraged users to provide feedback on their interest in utilizing this exclusive feed for verified accounts.
Additionally, recent reports reveal Meta’s plans to introduce a $14 fee for accessing an ad-free version of Instagram or Facebook in Europe. Users will have the option to pay the fee or continue viewing personalized ads. For users who wish to access both platforms, a combo subscription will be available for $17 per month. However, Meta will still offer free versions of the apps with ads in the European market.
These developments showcase Meta’s efforts to monetize its platforms while providing users with enhanced control and options. As Instagram tests its exclusive feed for paid verified users, the company seeks to fulfill the needs and preferences of its diverse user base.
