5G tablet shipments have surged by 86 percent year-on-year in the third quarter of the year, indicating a shift in consumer preferences in the tablet market. According to a report by CyberMedia Research (CMR), 5G tablets accounted for 16 percent of overall tablet shipments during this period. While the overall tablet market saw a 10 percent decline year-on-year, the premium tablet PC segment (priced at Rs 30,000 and above) witnessed a remarkable 79 percent increase in shipments quarter-on-quarter.
Apple led the market with a 26 percent share, experiencing a 20 percent year-on-year growth, followed by Samsung with 21 percent and Lenovo with 20 percent. On the other hand, Xiaomi witnessed an impressive 98 percent year-on-year growth from a small base in the given period.
Menka Kumari, Analyst-Industry Intelligence Group (IIG) at CMR, noted that the robust growth of Apple, Realme, and Xiaomi signals a significant shift in consumer preferences at both the premium and value-for-money end of the tablet PC market, driven by the continued proliferation of 5G.
Kumari anticipates an increasingly dynamic and seamless user experience across a diverse range of applications and services with the continued proliferation of 5G. The overall tablet market in India is also expected to experience single-digit year-on-year growth in 2023.
In conclusion, the substantial growth in market shares for key players like Apple, Realme, and Xiaomi reflects a growing demand for diverse tablet options in India. This growth is poised to continue, indicating an evolving and thriving tablet market in the region.
