The Accusation of iPhone X-Ray Theft Against Casetify Unfolds
A legal battle is brewing between case manufacturer Casetify and dbrand after the latter accused Casetify of stealing Apple device teardown visuals, as reported by The Verge. The controversy started when Casetify was accused of using iFixit’s X-rays of an iPhone obtained from Creative Electron without permission. It appears that Casetify used an image of the 2017 iPhone X found on the iFixit teardown page and presented it as the internal structure of the latest model.
This case highlights the broader implications of intellectual property theft in the tech industry, shedding light on the legal and ethical challenges faced by companies in safeguarding their proprietary images and information.
Dbrand has initiated a lawsuit against Casetify, alleging blatant replication of Dbrand’s Teardown device skins and cases. At the same time, Dbrand is unveiling new X-Ray skins, offering users a visual experience of a device stripped down to its internals.
The lawsuit came after Casetify introduced a line of phone cases called Inside Parts, featuring images of a device’s internal components on the exterior. However, users discovered discrepancies in the designs, with one observant user on X pointing out that Casetify seemed to reuse the same internal image across different phone models, compromising the accuracy of the representation of each device’s internals.
According to Dbrand, Casetify withdrew the contentious case lineup from its website within 24 hours of the lawsuit announcement, claiming its commitment to originality.
