InterGlobe Enterprises, the parent company of India’s leading airline, IndiGo, has announced a groundbreaking collaboration with US-based Archer Aviation to introduce an all-electric air taxi service in India by 2026. This ambitious partnership aims to provide a cost-competitive and efficient alternative to on-road services in India, addressing the challenges of congested ground travel and pollution.
Archer Aviation, supported by industry giants like Chrysler-parent Stellantis, Boeing, and United Airlines, specializes in electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, heralded as the future of urban air mobility. As part of the collaboration, InterGlobe plans to procure Archer Aviation’s electric aircraft, named ‘Midnight,’ which is tailored for operations within the Indian landscape.
The ‘Midnight’ e-aircraft is designed to accommodate four passengers and a pilot, with an impressive range of up to 100 miles (approximately 161 kilometers). The initial phase of the service aims to deploy 200 aircraft, commencing operations in key Indian cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru. It is predicted that the air taxi will reduce a typical 60 to 90-minute car journey in Delhi to a mere 7 minutes.
This collaboration is poised to revolutionize air mobility in India, offering a cost-effective and eco-friendly transportation solution. With the support of industry leaders and a clear vision for the future, InterGlobe Enterprises and Archer Aviation are set to make a significant impact on the transportation landscape in India.
