Connection Found between Ozempic and Tragic Death of Australian Woman in Weight Loss Attempt

Posted on November 9, 2023 By Haley Bennett

Australian Woman Dies After Taking Popular Weight Loss Drug, Trish Webster’s sad tale proves to be a cautionary one, raising concerns about the safety of the widely popular weight loss drug Ozempic. Webster’s journey, which began with a desire to shed a few kilograms before her daughter’s wedding ended in tragedy, sparking concerns about the use of drugs such as Ozempic.

Trish’s husband, Roy Webster, shared the heartbreaking details of her weight loss journey in an interview with 60 Minutes Australia. He revealed that despite losing 16 kilograms, Trish experienced severe side effects, including nausea and diarrhea. The tragedy occurred when Roy found his wife unconscious with a little brown liquid coming from her mouth. Despite efforts, Trish passed away that night, her death certificate attributing it to acute gastrointestinal illness.

The weight loss drug Ozempic, which has been endorsed by public figures like Elon Musk and Amy Schumer, has led to a global shortage. Government health administrations have issued warnings regarding the use of Ozempic in new patients, and the US Food and Drug Administration has updated product information in response to reports of complications, including blocked intestines among users.

Manufacturer Novo Nordisk has defended the safety of Ozempic, citing extensive clinical development programs and over 9.5 million patient years of exposure. However, legal actions against the company and similar drug manufacturers are underway due to the severe gastrointestinal problems caused by these weight-loss drugs.

Endocrinologist Dr. Kathryn Williams has also stressed the importance of monitoring and reporting side effects, urging caution among users. Tragic stories like Trish Webster’s have prompted her husband to push for an official investigation and emphasize awareness and caution regarding potential risks associated with weight loss drugs.
