Multan Sultans Appoint Catherine Dalton as First Female Coach in PSL
In a ground-breaking move, Multan Sultans have made history by appointing Catherine Dalton as the first female coach in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). Dalton will join the team as a fast-bowling coach, marking the first time a top-level men’s side has given this designation to a woman.
Dalton’s appointment has received well-deserved recognition, with The Sporting News highlighting her journey to this significant milestone. Originally from Essex, England, Dalton began her cricketing career as a batter for her county’s side. She later moved to Ireland, where she achieved remarkable success, representing the country in both ODIs and T20Is between 2015 and 2016.
Following her playing days, Dalton pursued coaching and obtained an ECB-certified Level 3 Advanced coaching certificate. She has held coaching positions at the National Fast Bowling Academy in the UK and the Ultimate Pace Foundation in India. During her time in India, Dalton worked with renowned pacers Deepak Chahar as well as up-and-coming talents such as Mohammad Ilyas, Sameen Gul, and Arshad Iqbal in Pakistan.
Multan Sultans’ appointment of Catherine Dalton reflects their commitment to advancing gender equality in sports. The franchise had previously named Hijab Zahid as their General Manager in August, making her the first female General Manager in the history of the PSL. Additionally, the Sultans are expected to announce England’s Alex Hartley as the assistant spin-bowling coach.
