European Qualifiers reaches its end, final spots determined for Euro 2024
As the European Qualifiers for UEFA Euro 2024 draw to a close, the final spots for the tournament that will take place in Germany are being determined. Defending champions Italy still need to qualify, along with 52 other nations, to earn a spot in the 23-team event.
Teams that secure first and second place in the 10 qualifying groups will automatically punch their tickets to Euro 2024. That accounts for 20 of the 23 open slots. The rest will be decided via playoffs, from which three teams will earn a place at the tournament. The UEFA Nations League will determine the 12 teams to participate in the playoffs, based on their performance and final rankings in the 2022/23 season.
Currently, eight teams have joined host Germany, who qualify automatically, in being guaranteed a place in the tournament, with a further 16 nations to join them over the coming months. Playoffs semi-finals are scheduled for March 21 and finals for five days later.
The final 12 spots for the Euro 2024 will be decided via playoffs, with the 12 UEFA Nations League group winners, spreading over leagues A, B, and C, advancing to these playoffs unless they’ve already qualified for the tournament directly. If already qualified, that country’s place in the playoffs is taken by the next highest-ranked team in its league.
