Aussie duo Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc garnered the largest bids in the mini-auction and in fact in IPL history as they were signed by Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 20.5 crore and Rs 24.75 crore respectively.

All 30 overseas slots were filled, with a total of 72 players securing contracts. Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals secured four overseas players each.

Among them are some special cricketers who have not played in the IPL before but got big-money contracts during the mini-auction in December 2023.

TSN takes a look at the five best overseas players who could set the stage on fire in their debut season.

Rachin Ravindra

CSK’s first overseas buy was Kiwi all-rounder Rachin Ravindra for Rs 1.80 crore. He has been a sensation in the international circuit and his World Cup experience would aid him in his maiden IPL season.

Dilshan Madushanka

Dilshan Madushanka, the left-arm fast bowler from Sri Lanka, is set to bolster the Mumbai Indians’ bowling lineup in the IPL 2024 season. Acquired for Rs 4.6 crore in the IPL auction, Madushanka brings with him the ability to swing the ball and pick up crucial wickets. His addition to the Mumbai Indians squad adds depth to their bowling attack and provides them with a formidable option in the pace department.

Gerald Coetzee

Gerald Coetzee, the talented pacer from South Africa, attracted attention with his impressive performance in the ODI World Cup 2023. Picked by the Gujarat Titans for ₹5 crores in the IPL 2024 Auction, Coetzee has showcased his bowling prowess in T20 cricket, taking six wickets in four T20I games for South Africa. With a remarkable track record in international cricket, Coetzee is expected to be a key player for his IPL team.

Shamar Joseph

Shamar Joseph, the promising fast bowler from the West Indies, made a sensational debut in international cricket by picking up a five-wicket haul in his first Test match against Australia. His exceptional bowling skills and ability to generate pace have earned him a spot in the Lucknow Super Giants squad as a replacement for Mark Wood. Joseph’s performance will be closely watched as he aims to make a mark in the IPL arena.

Azmatullah Omarzai

Azmatullah Omarzai, the dynamic right-handed hitter from Afghanistan, caught the attention of IPL franchises with his stellar performance in the ODI World Cup. Bought by the Gujarat Titans for 50 lakh in the IPL 2024 Auction, Omarzai showcased his batting prowess by scoring 353 runs in eight innings, including three half-centuries. With an impressive average of 70.60 and a striking strike rate of 97.78, Omarzai is set to be a game-changer for his team.
