Rephrase the title:Abusive Uber Driver Asks B’luru Google Techie To Leave Car Mid-Ride; Internet Says ‘Dadagiri On The Rise’

A Google techie narrated their harrowing tale of harassment by an Uber chauffeur in Bengaluru. Taking to X/Twitter, the software engineer remarked that during their estimated 1.5 hour journey, the cabbie was “constantly taking over his phone on a loudspeaker” for the first thirty minutes. The Uber user and his friends objected and asked him to use headphones instead. The techie claimed that the driver abused them and asked to step down in the middle of the ride, stating that he was uncomfortable with the passengers. Reacting to the original post, another techie from Pune posted the Uber driver’s snapshot, driving the cab with the same number. The Bengaluru techie confirmed that it was the same driver. Meanwhile, reacting to Uber’s swift resolution, the aggrieved user suggested introducing two features to tackle two issues faced by the majority of Uber users. In-App feature to 1) raise an issue for “using the phone” by the diver; and 2) raise a complaint about “no AC” during the ride. He further suggested that Uber can take into account pictures or small clips taken by the passengers to ascertain which would trigger the AI to send warnings. Appropriate action can be taken for multiple violations.

First bad experience in Bangalore.

Booked this Uber @Uber_India the estimated journey time was 1.5 hours. For the first 30 minutes, the driver constantly kept talking over his phone on a loudspeaker.

Thanks @UberIN_Support for reaching out, and promising action.

I am not sure how long will it take for you to take action, but glad that you did take some time out to call and listen to customer problems, instead of sending bot messages.

How about introducing two new… https://t.co/UYO5K8BTnW— Striver (@striver_79) March 17, 2024

Reacting to the user’s post, several users posted similar issues faced while riding Uber and similar services in Silicon Valley. One user remarked that ‘Dadagiri’ is on the rise in Bangalore, especially on ‘non-locals.’ Another user noted how some cabbies deploy these tactics professionally: 1) asking the passenger to cancel the ride if asked whether they’ll switch on the AC; or 2) arriving near the pick-up point and driving away by cancelling the trip themselves, stating the customer did not avail of the ride. A few other users had the same issue, stating that they felt scared to even ask about the AC, as the driver might cancel the ride. One user narrated how an Uber driver who was constantly talking on the phone rammed the car into a standing truck.

Dada giri is increasing everwhere in bangalore especially on non locals. If any administration like police, courts, media etc ready to take action I will give full details of a goon who threatened my region, language.— SSV (@Sreesatblr) March 17, 2024

Uber driver employee these tactics professionally

1. If asked whether they will switch on AC, they ask us to cancel.
2. If we don’t cancel they come near the pick.up point and drive away, cancel the trip stating that customer didn’t take the ride.— Nishith Patnaik (@NishithPatnaik) March 16, 2024

This is actually so true. In Bangalore I feel scared to ask for AC, they might cancel and leave me stranded. Uber NEEDS to implement a behavioural training for their drivers or they’ll soon run out of business. They should learn from @BluSmartIndia— Ayushh Bhatt (@ayushbhatt2001) March 17, 2024

They have habit of talking constantly over phone while driving.

My driver rammed the car in a standing truck while talking over the phone.

Luckily I was saved.— Mridul (@MridulRajB1) March 16, 2024
