The hosts were without all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who had top-scored in their first innings of the first Test with a brisk 87. He had pulled up injured, holding his hamstring as he was run out in the second innings, and missed the second Test as a result.
The third Test, due to start on February 15, will be held at Jadeja’s home stadium in Rajkot and he is currently in a race to be ruled fit for the match. However, another issue took centre-stage on Friday morning.
‘Meaningless and untrue’ – Ravindra Jadeja releases strongly-worded statement on ‘scripted interview’
Jadeja took to X (formerly Twitter) to release a statement in Gujarati, accomapnied by a caption in English reading “Let’s ignore what’s said in scripted interviews”.

The translated statement reads roughly as, “All the things said in the nonsense interview given to Divyabhaskar are meaningless and untrue. It is said on one side, which I reject. The attempts made to tarnish the image of my wife are truly reprehensible and unbecoming. I also have a lot to say which is fine as long as I don’t say it publicly.”
The interview Jadeja refers to in his statement was published earlier on Friday morning, in which the player’s father, Anirudhsinh Jadeja, alleged that he had not maintained a good relationship with his family and that Ravindra’s wife, Rivaba, created a rift in their family.
The cricketer has spoken before on the ideological differences between the pair, with his father aligning with the Congress and his wife with the BJP. He had stressed on the fact that these differences had not affected the family.
