Australia emerged victorious in a nail-biting game against New Zealand in the ongoing World Cup. The Australian team showcased their batting prowess by posting a formidable total of 388 runs. They then successfully defended their score as New Zealand managed to reach 383 for nine in 50 overs.

This thrilling encounter witnessed the highest combined score in a World Cup game, with a total of 771 runs scored by both teams. This milestone surpassed the previous record of 754 runs set by South Africa and Sri Lanka in the ongoing tournament.

After a lackluster start, five-time champions Australia have regained their momentum and are now on track for a place in the last four. With four consecutive victories under their belt, they have showcased their dominance in the competition.

Travis Head played a remarkable inning in his first World Cup game, smashing 109 runs off just 67 balls. Partnering with David Warner, they formed a formidable opening partnership of 175 runs, with Warner contributing 81 runs off 65 balls. The Australian team further bolstered their score with valuable contributions from Glenn Maxwell (41), Jos Inglis (38), and Pat Cummins (37 off 14 balls) towards the end of their innings.

On the bowling front, Glenn Phillips was the standout performer for New Zealand, finishing with figures of 3/37. However, his efforts were overshadowed as the other bowlers struggled to contain the Australian batsmen.

In their chase, New Zealand’s Rachin Ravindra showcased a brilliant counterattacking innings, scoring 116 runs off 89 balls. His century was the highest score for the New Zealand team. Despite his efforts, New Zealand fell just short of their target.

The final scores for the match were as follows:
Australia: 388 all out in 49.2 overs (Travis Head 109, David Warner 81; Glenn Phillips 3/37)
New Zealand: 383/9 in 50 overs (Rachin Ravindra 116, Jimmy Neesham 58, Josh Hazlewood 2/70).

With this impressive victory, Australia has solidified their position as contenders in the World Cup. Their remarkable performance has placed them in a favorable position for the upcoming matches.
