Real Madrid President Boycotts El Clasico in Protest of Barcelona’s Social Media Post
Prior to the highly anticipated El Clasico match between Real Madrid and Barcelona, tensions continue to rise as both clubs engage in off-field hostilities surrounding the Negreira case. The traditional director’s lunch, normally organized to ease tensions before the game, has become a contentious occasion as the clubs use it as a platform to make public statements about each other’s conduct.
Real Madrid President Florentino Perez has taken a stand against Barcelona by boycotting not only the lunch but also the match itself. This protest is in response to a social media post made by a Barcelona board member, Mikel Camps, criticizing Real Madrid winger Vinicius Jr. for his recent comments about racial abuse he has faced during matches.
After a 1-1 draw against Sevilla, Vinicius Jr. praised the club’s response to the racial abuse he experienced. A fan was ejected from the match for making monkey gestures towards the player. Vinicius Jr. also highlighted another incident of racial abuse from a child that went unaddressed by Sevilla security. In an Instagram post, he called for Spanish authorities to take action against racists.
Camps tweeted his thoughts on the incident, stating that Vinicius Jr. deserved a slap for his showboating on the field. The post was later deleted, and Barcelona Vice President Rafael Yuste acknowledged that it was a mistake. However, no formal apology was issued.
The tensions between Barcelona and Real Madrid have further intensified due to the ongoing Negreira case. Barcelona President Joan Laporta has been implicated in an alleged scheme to pay off a La Liga referee committee member for favorable decisions. Real Madrid has been vocal in their support of the case, which has led Barcelona to accuse them of jealousy and taking advantage of the situation.
Laporta commented on the sociological influence of Real Madrid, stating that it is a challenge to compete against them but Barcelona has managed to come out on top. He accused Real Madrid of using the Negreira case to tarnish Barcelona’s name and history, suggesting that they have ulterior motives of gaining control over the club.
With tensions at an all-time high, Real Madrid will be represented by Vice President Eduardo Fernandez de Blas at El Clasico, while President Florentino Perez remains absent from both the match and the director’s lunch. The match itself is expected to be a fiery showdown on the pitch as players from both teams give it their all to claim victory.
