Severe Weather Conditions Lead to Diversion of 18 Flights at Delhi Airport
Delhi, India – The capital city of Delhi experienced severe weather conditions on Saturday morning, leading to the diversion of 18 flights at the Delhi airport. An official confirmed that the affected flights were diverted to Jaipur, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, and Amritsar.
In a post on a popular microblogging platform at around 0810 hrs, the Delhi airport reported that low visibility procedures were in progress at the airport. This was attributed to the relatively low visibility in several parts of Delhi, as the air quality in multiple areas of the national capital was recorded in the ‘very poor’ category. Furthermore, a layer of smog covered various areas of the city.
According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the air quality in Anand Vihar and Ashok Vihar was rated as ‘Very Poor’, with Anand Vihar having an AQI reading of 388 and Ashok Vihar with a reading of 386 at 6 a.m. Similarly, the AQI reading at Terminal 3 of Indira Gandhi International (IGI) was recorded at 375 at 10:00 a.m.
Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai announced on Wednesday that Grap-3 has been lifted in the national capital, but efforts are underway to strictly implement Grap-1 and 2. The air quality index is measured on a scale from 0 to 500 or above, with 0-100 being considered ‘good’, 100-200 ‘moderate’, 200-300 ‘poor’, 300-400 ‘very poor’, and 400-500 or above ‘severe’.
