Bengaluru schools receive bomb threat; police investigate
Sixty-eight private schools in and around Bengaluru received emails on Friday warning of a bomb threat on their premises, causing panic among staff and parents, police report.
The authorities immediately alerted the police, who dispatched bomb disposal squads and anti-sabotage check teams to the schools. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said the police are taking the email seriously and providing security to schools as a precautionary measure.
The threatening email, which came from an email address, warned of bombs placed in schools and threatened to kill children and staff. The police are verifying the source of the email and have not found any suspicious objects at the school premises.
While most of the schools who received the bomb threat are situated in the city, the police commissioner assured the public that it most likely is a hoax. The students and staff remained safe and were evacuated from the school premises, and parents have been reassured that their children are safe.
The Opposition criticized the government for the deterioration of law and order in the state and urged for a comprehensive investigation into the bomb threat. The former chief minister also highlighted the lack of confidence among the people in their safety.
