French Automotive Supplier Files Lawsuit Against NVIDIA for Alleged Theft of Trade Secrets

NVIDIA embroiled in Lawsuit After Being Accused of Trade Secret Theft

French Automotive supplier Valeo has filed a lawsuit against NVIDIA, alleging trade secret theft following an accidental screen-sharing incident involving NVIDIA’s engineer Mohammad Moniruzzaman. The incident took place during a joint meeting between the two companies in 2022.

The meeting was focused on the collaboration regarding advanced parking and driving assistance technology. The relationship between the two companies had changed in 2021, when NVIDIA won the contract for developing parking assistance software, shifting the responsibilities from Valeo to NVIDIA.

Valeo accused Moniruzzaman of unauthorized access to their systems and stealing tens of thousands of files and 6GB of source code. After departing from Valeo, Moniruzzaman assumed a senior position at NVIDIA, carrying the alleged ill-gotten information with him. He continued working on the same project he was involved with Valeo, explaining his presence at the video conference where the screensharing incident occurred.

In response to these allegations, NVIDIA’s legal representatives denied any interest in Valeo’s code or trade secrets. Despite this, Valeo filed a lawsuit, claiming that NVIDIA had accrued substantial profits – potentially in the millions – by unlawfully appropriating its trade secrets.

The German authorities reportedly discovered Valeo’s documentation and hardware displayed in Moniruzzaman’s residence during a police raid, and a German court subsequently convicted him of infringing on business secrets.

As this legal dispute unfolds, NVIDIA faces significant allegations and potential legal repercussions. The concerning situation involving a former employee and trade secret theft might have a long-lasting impact on the company’s reputation and future business operations.
