Liverpool and Manchester City are two of the biggest football clubs in England, and their managers, Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola, have developed a fierce rivalry. This rivalry has played out over the years in thrilling matches that have kept fans on the edge of their seats. This was evident in the 2021/2022 Premier League season when Liverpool and City faced off, with City ultimately gaining the edge to win the title.
Klopp and Guardiola’s history dates back to their time as managers of Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga. Their rivalry continued when Klopp moved to the Premier League in 2015 and Guardiola followed a year later. The two legendary managers are now at the helm of Liverpool and Man City, respectively, battling it out every year.
Their most recent showdown in April 2022 resulted in a draw, adding to the intense rivalry between the two clubs. Klopp has faced Guardiola on 28 occasions, winning 12 times, and Guardiola winning 11, with 5 draws.
Both managers have exchanged compliments in the past, with Klopp calling Guardiola one of the best managers of all time. Guardiola also expressed respect for Klopp, acknowledging him as his biggest rival in his career.
While the two managers have only met once in a final with silverware directly on the line, they have faced each other numerous times in cup competitions, often resulting in one or the other being eliminated from contention for trophies.
Guardiola has racked up an impressive resume with multiple league titles and cup wins, while Klopp has secured titles such as the Premier League, EFL Cup, and Champions League.
The rivalry between the two bosses has produced several memorable matchups over the years, including Klopp’s victory over Guardiola in the DFL Supercup and Guardiola’s double win in the 2013-14 season. Their heated encounters have solidified their place as two of the most renowned managers in football.
